Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie’s return to former club Heerenveen this weekend shouldn’t be an uncomfortable one for him, given his experience at the hands of Arsenal fans when he returned with Manchester United.

That’s according to journalist Martijn Krabbendam, via FR12, who believes that experience with Arsenal will have prepared Van Persie well.

The striker turned manager is set to return to his former club, Heerenveen, for the first time this weekend with Feyenoord.

The 41-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester United striker left Heerenveen in February after less than a year in charge and 26 games in total for the job at his former club Feyenoord.

That decision did not go down well with the Heerenveen faithful, and he is expected to receive a hostile welcome upon his return to the Abe Lenstra Stadium on Sunday.

Van Persie has admitted himself, publically, that he made mistakes at the Dutch club, but insists he did not ditch them as soon as a better opportunity became available, despite that appearing to be the case.

And Krabbendam expects he’ll be able to deal with any criticism that does come his way, anyway, given he experienced worse as a player when he swapped Arsenal for Manchester United.

“The first time was Manchester – Arsenal, that was not too bad,” he said.

“The first time away at Arsenal was tough. I am curious whether it will be something like that, which I do not expect by the way.”
