Wednesday’s edition of Sport had a little Marlon snippet on their front page, and then an article inside claiming the player is close to a West Ham move.
In fact, Sport presented the switch as almost done, so confident were their claims. This story wasn’t pushed as something being in the early stages.
The young defender would be cutting his two year Nice loan move in half, and moving to the Hammers from around €15m, presenting a good profit for Barca.
Sport stated things like ‘Marlon will have Manuel Pellegrini as coach’ and other claims to make it clear how close they believe the transfer is.
Another Catalan newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, has it differently on Thursday.
Whilst it’s explained the club accept there are talks ongoing to take Marlon to West Ham, Barca sources have explained it isn’t ‘imminent’ at the moment.
Things haven’t yet advanced enough to give Barcelona confidence that a transfer will be agreed very quickly for the 22 year old. That’s not to say Mundo Deportivo believe there’s problems on a deal, just that Sport jumped the gun somewhat.
