Danny Röhl has gone very quiet since his tour of the German media. Sheffield Wednesday fans won’t need much reminding, but the manager spoke to multiple media sources in Germany and talked himself up as a candidate for the RB Leipzig job.
Speaking like he’d already left the Championship club, Röhl explained that many may feel he’s too inexperienced for a Champions League position, and that the jump would be too big, yet he has a lot going for him in terms of experience prior to becoming a senior manager.
Röhl even spoke to RB Leipzig affiliated media, so it can’t be said the Sheffield Wednesday manager wasn’t giving it his best shot.
However, it doesn’t appear to have worked. RBLive report the Bundesliga club don’t seem keen on appointing a young coach like Röhl.
Leipziger Volkszeitung report RB Leipzig appointing the Sheffield Wednesday manager is ‘unlikely’, and this week’s edition of SportBild goes through the list of candidates without even mentioning Röhl.
All hope shouldn’t be lost, though. Vincent Kompany wasn’t Bayern Munich’s first choice, or even fifth choice, but he got the job almost by default in the end.
