Aston Villa midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo is now set to speak to Italian authorities about the betting case against him.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the player has just arrived at the Prosecutor’s Office in Turin, and will be heard by PM Manuela Pedrotta.
The Italian authorities want to listen to what Zaniolo has to say about his gaming and betting activities.
It’s already known that the Aston Villa player hasn’t been betting on football matches, and that’s the reason why he shouldn’t get a heavy punishment such as those handed to Nicolo Fagioli and Sandro Tonali.
Still, with the Prosecutor’s Office calling him to go to Italy to speak, that also sends a message that they’re taking his case carefully as well.
Following Thursday’s match against AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, Aston Villa now prepare for Sunday’s clash against Luton Town on Sunday.
Club manager Unai Emery is probably not very happy that Zaniolo had to go to Italy for the investigation, but that shouldn’t stop the midfielder from playing at the weekend.
We now shall see how the Italian authorities will react to the player’s explanations.
