Enzo Barrenechea has had a mixed time at Valencia this season. The club have now largely swerved relegation worries and the 23-year-old has grown in prominence as the season has gone on.
Whilst the Argentine has had a reasonable time out on loan in Spain, and has certainly enjoyed himself on a personal level, he’s probably not done quite as well as some of the hype suggests.
Valencia are pleased with him, but Tuesday’s edition of AS makes it clear they have no intention to try and agree a deal with Aston Villa for the purchase.
As it stands, ‘Aston Villa want him back’ and Unai Emery will assess Barrenechea over the summer before the club decide what to do.
AS explain that should Aston Villa open up to the idea of a loan then Valencia will be in the queue to take advantage.
This all feels a slight change in tone, with some previous Spanish reports stating Valencia could try for a permanent deal at a low price.
There’s the possibility they’ve been told by Aston Villa that the price won’t be as low as hoped and therefore have ruled out a purchase for now.
