Aston Villa’s Jhon Jader Durán can become an even better player in future, if he calms down and doesn’t let his emotions take over.
That’s according to journalist Melissa Martínez in Semana, who believes the 20-year-old needs to get his emotions in check before too long.
Durán has shot into the spotlight at the beginning of this season despite only playing a substitute role under Unai Emery at this moment in time.
He has seven goals in 12 games and 404 minutes to date, with his latest coming in the 2-0 win over Bologna in the Champions League earlier this week.
Emery elected to substitute him not long after that goal, prompting a furious reaction from Durán, who was seen kicking seats in the dugout and needing to be calmed down by Aston Villa’s staff.
He headed down the tunnel afterwards, before returning at the end of the game to join in with the Aston Villa celebrations.
It’s not the first time that Durán’s emotions have boiled to the surface at Villa Park and it’s a subject which has received plenty of coverage in the last few months. The striker has even been encourage to calm down by the likes of Faustino Asprilla.
Martínez thinks that is something he needs to consider seriously, as if he does, he could be an even better player in future.
“I like players who suffer and get upset when you change them, but he needs to moderate his ways, because today he plays in the best league in the world, where that type of attitude does not enter,” she told Semana.
“He would score more points if he is a slightly calmer player. I think he could gain a reputation for being confrontational and we don’t want that, we want him to be a great alternative, a great starter because he has all the potential.”
