Real Unión’s links with Aston Villa and Unai Emery appear to be paying off for the Spanish club, as they’ve been able to secure a shirt deal with Adidas.

El Diario Vasco cover the situation today after an end of season presentation involving Unai Emery that revealed the Spanish’s side’s new kits for the campaign, with one very clearly a homage to Aston Villa.

The newspaper explain that Real Unión tend to close the season with an event involving sponsors and collaborators and this year has been no different.

The event was held this week, with Unai Emery in attendance to speak to the group, comprising of businessmen and companies alike.

That naturally meant a point had to be made about the new relationship with Aston Villa, after their owners, the VGroup, invested in the club this year and made them part of their network.

This saw a message from the president, who was keen to insist that the relationship was a partnership more than anything else.

“We are the Real Unión. We are the Real Unión, with our identity, with our stabilization process and future growth,” he said.

“The agreement with Aston Villa gives us the opportunity to grow even more open. We can be part of a network of clubs, within VSports Group, with Aston Villa at the head.”

What came next, though, ‘fit like a glove’ as the club revealed their new kit suppliers for the season would be Adidas, who have also just taken up kit duties at Aston Villa.

That deal has ‘greased the return’ of the brand to Real Unión, who had worn Adidas shirts in the past but moved to Puma for the last two years.

The surprise did not end there as the Spanish club then revealed their new kits, a black and white striped home shirt and a maroon and blue away shirt.

Rather that the usually yellow or red and black numbers the club have gone for what is, to be absolutely clear, an Aston Villa design but with the Real Unión crest upon it instead.

How that goes down with fans remains to be seen but the choice is obvious and another sign of the growing relationship between the two sides thanks to Unai Emery.
