Leroy Fer almost certainly won’t be signing for Lille this evening.
The French club had been linked with a move for the Swansea City player this week, but now their window is said to be over.
Domenighetti Joël, who is the editor of French sport newspaper L’Equipe, says the Ligue 1 side won’t be doing any more business.
That means that Thiago Mendes won’t be going to PSG, as the club still scratch around for another defensive midfielder, and therefore the route to Fer has been blocked.
That makes a transfer to Aston Villa all the likelier, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting on Thursday evening that the parties involved are now ‘close to an agreement’.
Di Marzio says that Lille was a favoured destination for Fer, but with them pulling away, Aston Villa saw the opportunity to get the signing themselves.
The Dutchman’s contract expires in June, so Swansea will likely be looking for a fee.
