Championship sides Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday all reportedly sent scouts to Estádio da Luz last night.
According to A Bola, the officials watched Benfica’s game against Dinamo Kiev for the Champions League group stage, which the home team won 1-0.
Players such as Ederson, Ljubomir Fejsa, Pizzi Fernandes and Servi also had a good match.
Both Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday had already watched Benfica a short time ago, so it’s likely that they are keeping an eye on someone there. Newcastle’s visit, on the other hand, is really something new.
Sheffield Wednesday have Portuguese connections already but it’s difficult to see which players would be in the club’s price range, and similar would apply to Aston Villa and Newcastle United without immediate promotion from the Championship.
