Originally viewed as a good move last summer, the deal sending Nicolo Zaniolo to Aston Villa hasn’t really worked out for the Italy international.
While the Villans have themselves enjoyed a very good campaign to date, the midfielder hasn’t been a big part of it, making 17 appearances and scoring one goal in the Premier League, but only totalling 541 minutes of football.
He has found more luck with Aston Villa in the Conference League, and this appears to be his best chance of getting game time going forward, which will be good for him when he looks for his next transfer, as explained by Gazzetta dello Sport.
The newspaper report that after trying his luck in England, the 24-year-old wants to be a mainstay in the Italy national team during the Euros and then in Serie A again.
Because Aston Villa aren’t planning to trigger the option to buy in the deal with Galatasaray, he will ‘temporarily return’ to Turkey at the end of the season with a return to his home country ‘in mind’.
AC Milan, Napoli and Fiorentina are all mentioned as potential destinations for him, with the latter two ‘keeping their antennas straight’, clearly lurking to pounce at the right time.
However, for now, the Aston Villa man’s ‘priority’ is ‘to find the pitch again’ and hoping that some good performances in the Conference League allow him to fully showcase his ability in order to convince Luciano Spalletti about including him in his Italy squad for the Euros.
