Yesterday, we covered a report from Calcio e Finanza, which stated that Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is waiting for a move to Napoli and that has been the general perception across the media too.
However, now, from nowhere, there’s the shock inclusion of Aston Villa in the race for the Belgian.
The English press had recently reported about the possibility of a swap between Chelsea and Napoli involving Lukaku, a big pile of cash, and Victor Osimhen. That was refuted by Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda, and Lukaku continues to wait for his future to be sorted out.
Il Mattino, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24, today report Chelsea have found ‘total agreement’ with Aston Villa over a fee for Lukaku in the ‘last few hours’.
Chelsea are also pushing for Lukaku to agree terms with the Birmingham club and move there. As of now, the Belgian is refusing that possibility.
He is training alone and while Villa reportedly push for the move, he only wants to join Napoli. Chelsea are running out of patience and Napoli boss Antonio Conte is said to be ‘worried’. He too wants the club to sign Lukaku as soon as they can, but Osimhen’s situation is blocking the move.
There’s a possibility this is all for a Napoli audience, in an effort to show fans how eager Lukaku is to play for their club. Holding off Aston Villa, a Champions League side, could be seen as a show of desire to represent the Naples club.
Either that or we could be in for one of the more surprising moves of the summer.
