Aston Villa fullback Lucas Digne is today linked with a move to Portugal.

The information is brought by local newspaper Correio da Manhã, who write about Benfica’s need for a player in that position.

The Eagles are about to lose left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, who’s leaving the club at the end of his contract this summer and is joining Bayer Leverkusen as a free agent.

As Benfica look for new options, Correio da Manhã say signing Digne from Aston Villa is a possibility for the Lisbon side.

It’s claimed that even though the 29-year-old’s contract with the Premier League side runs until 2026, he’s actually ‘receptive’ to listening to an offer from a club who’ll be playing in the Champions League next season.

The report doesn’t make it clear what Aston Villa’s stance is on this, since they have Digne tied up and he’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €17m, which is a high price for Benfica, especially speaking of a fullback.

So the only way this transfer would happen is if the English club make the Frenchman’s departure very easy. This season, he’s had 29 appearances so far, and has been a rotation option.
