Aston Villa’s chase for Villarreal star Álex Baena gets another update from the Spanish media today.
It’s Marca who now features a story claiming Unai Emery sees the player as a ‘gift’ from their qualification to the Champions League.
The outlet seems to hold big belief in Aston Villa’s power to sign Baena. Because they claim that even though Barcelona have also been linked to him, the English club are actually in a position to ‘bet bigger from an economic point of view’.
It’s said that Villarreal haven’t received any formal offers for the midfielder yet, but are actually ‘open to negotiating’ if a reasonable bid arrives at their table.
Baena is protected by a €60m release clause. However, not that much would be needed for the Yellow Submarine to accept a sale, as the player represents a real chance of a record transfer at the club.
Reports from the Spanish media had this week already claimed that Aston Villa are in pole position to sign the Spaniard, so it should be a matter of time until their offer arrives.
