Leeds United’s Isaac Schmidt will be called up by Switzerland manager Murat Yakin for the upcoming international break.

The 25-year-old made two appearances for Switzerland U20 in 2019 and didn’t get an opportunity to represent the senior team. That may soon change for the left-back.

That’s according to Swiss newspaper Blick, who state the Leeds player will receive a ‘surprise’ call up from the national team manager.

The Swiss media have already reported about Boca Juniors’ Lucas Blondel and Lausanne-Sport’s Alvyn Sanches’ getting their first call ups. The duo won’t be the only newcomers as the report states Schmidt will be added to this list.

Schmidt joined the Whites from FC St. Gallen last summer deadline day and hasn’t been able to be a regular in his debut season at Elland Road.

The defender has played just over 200 minutes from nine games for Leeds United. He’s made only two appearances this year and both of them were in the FA Cup.

Daniel Farke’s decision to overlook the fullback at Leeds didn’t stop Yakin from including him in the Switzerland squad for March’s fixtures, according to Blick.
