According to a claim in the Turkish media, Aston Villa are still showing interest in Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara, pleased with the progress he’s made since his move from Norwich City.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to the Premier League side in recent weeks after reports they’ve been scouting him this season.

Haber Sarikirmizi have covered comments made by Ali Ece, in which he claims Aston Villa’s aim in the next transfer window is to sign Sara.

The Turkish journalist said the English club were interested in the player when he was playing for Norwich City, but they backed away from a deal.

“Aston Villa’s plans include acquiring Gabriel Sara. Originally, they were going to buy him from Norwich City, but when Galatasaray asked for him, they waited and said, ‘Let’s see what will happen at a big club, what will he do in European games?’.”

Ece then on went to say Gala could consider selling the central midfielder this summer if there is a possibility in making a profit.

“At worst, Galatasaray will sell at a profit this summer. I think if there is a sale with a profit, he will be transferred again,” said the Turkish journalist.

Sara has impressed since his arrival in Istanbul, which has led to reports of a possible return to the Premier League. Aston Villa have been one of the clubs linked with the 25-year-old, alongside Manchester City.

We covered reports last month that Manchester City had made contact with Sara’s agent to get more information on the player. Sheffield United have also been linked.

He’s made 42 appearances for the Super Lig leaders this season, scoring two goals.
