Aston Villa and Tottenham are among the sides negotiating with Lille star Jonathan David over a move in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who report that Aston Villa and Tottenham have positioned themselves for the free agent.

David is set to be available on a free as his current deal with Lille comes to an end and several clubs in Europe have positioned themselves for him.

The 25-year-old has plenty of admirers after impressing for Lille since his arrival in 2020, with 109 goals and 30 assists in 231 games for the club. Perhaps even more impressively, he has only missed seven matches for his club in that time. One was a suspension and another because of COVID.

He is almost never injured and has a goalscoring and assist record to match some of the best, with 25 goals and 12 assists this season and that has clubs lining up.

Negotiations are already underway with Juventus, Napoli, Tottenham and Aston Villa. L’Equipe also say there is an ‘exotic club’ offering him a ‘golden bridge’.

What they’re offering isn’t mentioned but David, who has waited another year at Lille after missing out on a big move last summer, intends to earn big from being a free agent.

That means Aston Villa and Tottenham may need to dig deep, but they are among the sides already negotiating according to L’Equipe.
