The media around Lazio continue to link Aston Villa with a move for Matteo Guendouzi. There’s been claims they tried to sign the midfielder last summer, and those are pushed again this week.
Citta Celeste report the Premier League club tried to take advantage of difficulties at Lazio last summer to get a good deal for the Frenchman but weren’t able to reach an agreement.
Now they’re being linked again. Newcastle United are presented as being keen but it’s ‘Aston Villa above all’ and they’re expected to make another attempt for Guendouzi.
Lazio would be ‘ready to evaluate’ offers around €35m.
That’s not wildly expensive, but it’s not particularly cheap either for the level of player. Guendouzi is 26-years-old, there’s no contract pressure given his deal lasts until 2028, he doesn’t seem to be pushing for a move, they’re not pushing him out, and there’s no obvious agent connections.
Therefore, none of this looks particularly like a Monchi plan.
Should Aston Villa really be looking for a 26-year-old central midfielder who can also play defensive midfield, who has Premier League experience, then there’s another option in Italy staring at that them.
Juventus will let Douglas Luiz return to English football this summer, and Monchi has already said he’d consider taking him back.
