Arsenal need depth in attacking areas and to make it really clear… they need goalscorers.
The club don’t just lack a proper centre-forward, Gabriel Martinelli’s inconsistent form in front of goal has been a problem and that left-wing spot could also need upgrading.
El Nacional in Spain have reported today that Arsenal are interested in Athletic Club Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who has been endlessly linked with a move to Barcelona.
The outlet state that while the Catalan giants have been following the Spain international for quite a while and he is on their shortlist for the summer, Arsenal are a keen competitor.
The Gunners have decided to get ahead of Barcelona and are ‘willing to pay the release clause’ of the 22-year-old. They believe that talks are ongoing and this possibility has left Barca ‘stunned’.
Sources close to Arsenal are said to have informed the outlet that Mikel Arteta wants a quick and pacy wide winger who can open up games, and Williams is seen as the perfect candidate for that profile.
Having said that, this seems like a story for a Catalan audience and perhaps pressing their transfer buttons ahead of the summer, and using Arsenal to do so.
