Arsenal are now leading the race for Atletico Madrid star João Félix, according to claims from Spain.
As Marca feature a story about the ‘final stretch’ in the battle for the player, the Gunners are now considered one of the favourites for the signing, as they seem to have surpassed Aston Villa in this pursuit.
The outlet writes that following Portugal’s elimination at the World Cup, agent Jorge Mendes started ‘accelerating’ his job to find the attacker a new club.
Arsenal had been named by AS as a new contender for the signing, and according to Marca, the Gunners ‘take the lead’ now that they’re also in the fight for the Premier League title.
And despite those reports regarding Aston Villa’s talks for Félix, that operation doesn’t seem that advanced anymore. It’s claimed that regardless of the club’s economic potential, both the team and the city are lacking attraction for the player, who’d rather join a club with ‘more substance and history’.
Besides Arsenal and Aston Villa, the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and Manchester United are all said to be in the fight for Félix as well. Atlético Madrid, who already accepted that the Portuguese star is leaving, will be waiting for the offers.
