Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori is the subject of an ongoing battle between Roma and Basel over €8m.
That’s according to 4-4-2, who say the two sides remain locked in a legal dispute over the Arsenal defender after his move in 2022.
They explain that the dispute concerns the share of the Italian’s resale percentage, which was due to be shared out following his move to Arsenal last summer.
Roma believe that they are due 40% of the transfer fee that Basel received directly or indirectly from Calafiori joining Bologna and then Arsenal.
Basel, naturally, disagree and so far, have only given the Italian side 40% of the transfer proceeds from the defender’s move to Bologna from Roma.
The case has now been put but the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. In the worst-case scenario, Basel will be ordered to pay their Italian counterparts €8m according to CFO René Heiniger.
As a precaution, the Swiss club have already included that number in their expenditures for the 2024 financial year but remain hopeful that the CAS will rule in their favour and stop such a payment departing.
