Arsenal reportedly showed interest in Manchester City’s João Cancelo, before he moved to Barcelona on a loan deal last summer.

Earlier this week, we covered claims from the Catalan media explaining that the Gunners are keen on signing him in the next window.

Sport state Arsenal are unlikely to be successful in their efforts to sign the Manchester City owned player.

The Portugal international has excelled at the Camp Nou and that has resulted in interest from other clubs.

Manchester City have already received interest, including from Mikel Arteta’s side, and are ready to sell the 29-year-old to the ‘highest bidder’.

It’s claimed Arsenal are among the clubs to have shown willingness to make a bid for the fullback. The negotiations have been ‘cut off’ due to his desire to continue at the Camp Nou and his refusal to listen to other offers.

Barcelona are also keen on retaining the fullback and have communicated that to his agent, Jorge Mendes. They are looking to buy or loan with a mandatory purchase option, and work needs to be done to fit Cancelo into the Blaugrana’s wage bill next season.

In addition to this, Barca have to agree a deal with Manchester City, and Sport explain the two clubs are ‘doomed’ to reach an agreement.
