Two days ago, we carried a report from SportBild, who explained Hertha Berlin’s new manager Jürgen Klinsmann wants to strengthen his side’s midfield in the winter market, which is why they are considering to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Victor Wanyama.
However, according to Bild, the German side have also been looking at Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.
The Switzerland international was subjected to criticism for reacting after he was jeered off by the home supporters in the Gunners’ 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in October, and even though the midfielder apologised later, Bild claims the wound has still not healed.
Hertha sporting director Michael Preetz is said to have made a trip to England last week and the report adds it’s quite possible he could have made a push for the 27-year-old transfer during his time. Bild adds a ‘star’ like Xhaka would fit well into Hertha’s new policy.
In fact, it’s claimed the Switzerland international has even ‘informed his teammates in London about the move to Berlin’.
Arsenal are looking between €20-30m for the player and are also open to the idea of allowing Xhaka leave on loan in January as long as a purchase option is included in the deal.
