Sporting Club de Portugal will have to pay 10% of any rejected official offer from Arsenal or another suitor to Viktor Gyökeres’ agent.
That’s according to journalist Nuno Farinha, via Mais Futebol, who reports that Sporting find themselves in an awkward position thanks to an agreement with Gyökeres’ agent.
This week has seen Arsenal and other clubs linked with a move for the Swedish striker once again as they plan a big summer of incomings.
Gyökeres’ is seemingly determined to leave Sporting this summer and that has led to a very public battle between him, his agent and the club. The player and his agents have reportedly been left furious that an agreement to let him go for less than his €100m release has not been honoured.
Sporting have hit back, insisting that no such agreement exists. Indeed, their president, Federico Varandas, accused Gyökeres’ agent of trying use blackmail to force through a transfer for his client.
In the meantime, everyone is waiting for Arsenal to make an official offer for the 27-year-old, who has reportedly always wanted to join the Gunners.
One potential problem on that front, according to Farinha, is that Sporting will have to pay 10% of any official bid that they reject to Gyökeres’ agent, further complicating their stance on the matter.
“Basically, the agency have an exclusive mandate to sell Gyökeres,” he told CNN Portugal.
“It is true that Gyökeres has that famous €100m clause, but there is also in that mandate, that is in Gyökeres contract, then there is a sales mandate that was passed on to the player’s agents.
“It says that if the representatives or the agents bring an official proposal, of €60m Sporting can refuse, of course, but if they refuse, they have to pay 10% to the agent. If the official proposal comes to Sporting and Sporting refuses, (the agent is) immediately entitled to 10% of this amount that was proposed.
“The proposal of €60m has not yet been accepted. We are talking about a fixed €60m. There has to be €60m, then it could even be zero in variables, but if there is €60m fixed and if this proposal comes to Sporting and Sporting rejects it, Gyökeres agent will be immediately involved.”
