Just over a week ago we covered claims from Spain that Arsenal and Leicester City had made some sort of contact over signing Roque Mesa from Las Palmas.
The 27 year old defensive midfielder has been doing well for his club, and that led to previous links with the likes of Norwich City, but Leicester, and especially Arsenal, seemed slightly fortunate potential destinations.
When the claims broke, we stated: ‘The suggestion of Arsenal and Leicester interest in the player for a January move is curious, but it’s also hugely convenient given the player is set to go into contract negotiations.
Who knows, maybe the two English clubs are going left-field with their transfer plans for January. Stranger things have happened. Just.’
In Tuesday’s edition of Marca, it’s stated that Roque Mesa now has the chance to extend his Las Palmas contract until June 2022, along with the chance to be paid ‘considerably’ higher wages by the club.
It all fits together like a jigsaw for the footballer, and that should be the end of Leicester and Arsenal claims.
