The stories linking Ousmane Diomande to Arsenal may not be as frequent as those talking about other suitors, but we do get to see an interesting piece mentioning the Gunners’ chase today.

The article comes from Portuguese newspaper Record, and says that given the attention that Sporting defenders have been drawing, the club are already targeting potential replacements.

Speaking of Diomande, the outlet recalls that he received ‘concrete offers’ in the past, as Arsenal previously tried to take him with a €35m bid.

It’s then added that the Gunners ‘guaranteed’ that they’ll return for the defender in 2024.

Record says that Arsenal and Real Madrid are the clubs in ‘pole position’ to take Diomande and Gonçalo Inácio.

That puts Arsenal in a high place where we hadn’t seen them before, as there’s strong competition from the Premier League for the Ivorian, with the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle also linked.

While the Gunners now decide how much to offer for Diomande this time, it’s worth pointing out that he’s protected by a €80m release clause, and Sporting aren’t expected to sell him for much less than that, at least in the January transfer window.
