Last summer, Arsenal managed to finally get Nicolas Pépé off their books, as the Ivory Coast international managed to get a free transfer to Trabzonspor.
The forward had failed to live up to the €80m fee spent by the Gunners to secure his services from Lille, and even a series of loans didn’t get his career back on track.
That being said, even with a free transfer away from Arsenal, he has struggled once again, as pointed out by Sabah on Tuesday.
The Turkish outlet point out Pépé has ‘cost the club dearly’, as he has fallen ‘short of expectations’ this season, with four goals and two assists in just 12 league matches.
He has only managed 565 minutes of football this season due to a number of injury issues, followed by the time spent away at AFCON, and it seems there are some regrets there.
These mostly come because he is receiving a guaranteed €3.5m for the year, which is a lot of money for a club like Trabzonspor.
While Arsenal are likely glad to have been able to see the back of the player, it appears his new club aren’t overly thrilled with how the season has panned out to date, but considering he only signed a one-year contract, they will soon be free of him too.
