Arsenal are interested in Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi and this continues to be a topic of discussion in the Spanish media.
Wednesday’s AS explains several English clubs, ‘above all Arsenal’, have asked the La Liga side about the 23-year-old.
The Gunners and others have received the same response, that La Real are not willing to negotiate the midfielder’s sale in January.
Another Spanish newspaper, El País, states the Premier League side tried to negotiate with Sociedad after Mikel Arteta asked the club’s owners to sign the Spain international in the winter market.
Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay referred to the player’s €60m release cause. Following this response, the north London club turned towards the player himself as he is managed by the same agent who represents Arteta.
Arsenal told Zubimendi they are willing to pay the money so that they can bring him to the Emirates immediately.
However, the English side were met with another refusal, this time from the midfielder, who doesn’t want to leave the club midway through the season.
El País state Sociedad fear Zubimendi’s decision may change in the near future, due to his and his agent’s determination to not increase the clause when he signed a new deal last October.
There’s a feeling a summer move is likelier, and he could say yes to Arsenal in the near future.
