Arsenal have identified Sporting star Viktor Gyökeres as a target to improve their attack next season.

That’s according to Correio da Manhã’s Mais Sport, and they cover Arsenal’s plan to get ahead of the competition to sign the striker in the summer window.

The Sweden international was instrumental in their title winning campaign last season and extend his fine form into this season, managing 40 goals and 10 assists.

Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘already preparing what they hope will be a decisive raid’ to secure the 26-year-old’s services.

The former Coventry City man’s performances for the Lions have seen him attract interest from other clubs. The report says this includes Manchester United, where former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is currently in charge.

Correio da Manhã explain Arsenal have requested a formal meeting with Gyökeres’ agent Hasan Çetinkaya, who is also a friend of Arteta.

The north London club’s official believe the representative’s close relationship with Arteta could help them get ahead of the Red Devils. Whether that will help remains to be seen.

Gyökeres has a €100m release clause in his contract that expires in 2028. The newspaper states he has assurances from Sporting to leave for €75m.
