Ruben Amorim’s impending appointment for Manchester United may be a blessing in disguise for Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
That’s according to Paul Parker, who has been discussing the matter with Tipsbladet and believes the Brentford boss may be dodging a bullet.
Frank has almost been publically willing himself into a new job in the last few months, making it clear that he’s perhaps ready to move on from Brentford despite his overall happiness at the club.
Manchester United are known to have talked to him in the summer when they were considering Erik ten Hag’s future.
The Dane was again put in the mix after Ten Hag’s sacking on Monday but appears to have been overlooked once again as Manchester United have pushed for Amorim instead.
A deal for the Sporting Club de Portugal boss has been advancing quickly over the course of today, with United already informing Sporting that they intend to pay his release clause.
If that proves to be the case it will mean Frank has again missed out on a big job and remain at Brentford, although Parker believes that may be a blessing this time around.
“Thomas Frank is the best bet for a manager who can turn things around for Manchester United. He is a fantastic coach with an exceptional impact. He’s tough and he comes across as arrogant at times, but it’s a good arrogance. He believe in his own abilities,” he said.
“I hope not for his sake that he goes to Manchester United. It’s a club in a terrible state and there are so many egos in that team who will be quick to throw him under the bus. I’m afraid he will ruin his credit by going to Manchester United.
“He must feel like the yolk in an egg at Brentford, and I don’t even think he even wants to go to Manchester United. The club is a sinking ship so he would be gambling way too much with his own career if he goes there and gets sacked after eight months. He’s great, but he’s no wizard. He can’t turn sand into gold, and this squad is no better than a top ten finish at most.
“If he turns out to be employed, I welcome him very much, but I really want to warn him against it. He must think carefully.”
