Last week, we saw reports claiming that with Graham Potter’s job in danger, Todd Boehly already considers a few names for the manager job at Chelsea.
One of them is Ruben Amorim, who’s been doing a good job at Sporting and is undoubtedly a promising manager.
It turns out that Amorim has recently been praised by manager Pep Guardiola as well, and added to the links with Chelsea, that was a reason for him to be asked about a potential move to the Premier League.
Those questions were made in his latest press conference with the Portuguese media, and he made it clear that he’s keeping all his focus on Sporting for now.
“Regarding the compliments, of course it’s always good to hear, but my reality goes through white handkerchiefs last week and a season far below what I wanted. Even linking to the comment that was made, the results dictate everything. What happens around the game does not matter,” said Ruben Amorim (via O Jogo).
“I don’t want to open doors to England. I’ve already had some contacts and I’ve always said and I’ll say again that I’m very happy here. What I don’t want is to disappoint my supporters, who last week showed their displeasure with the coach. I don’t want to open other doors.”
Chelsea come from three straight losses, against Borussia Dortmund, Southampton and now Tottenham Hotspur.
Before that, they had three straight draws, so things are just getting worse at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues stand in 10th in the Premier League table, and if things stay that way, it will be no surprise to see them looking for a new manager pretty soon.
