On Monday, claims from the British press stated Atlético Madrid have Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne on their wanted list.

This has reached the Spanish press and particularly Radio Marca, who share more on the La Liga club’s interest in the left-back.

Journalist Diego Picó, on Radio Marca’s Buenas Noches y Buenos Goles, reports Atlético have “already called” Aston Villa to ask the conditions needed to sign the 31-year-old.

Los Rojiblancos, currently at the Club World Cup, want to strengthen the left side of their defence, and the report states they have a ‘clear name on the table: Lucas Digne’.

The France international has been the first choice for the Villans since joining them from Everton in January 2022. Picó reports the former Barcelona man is very popular with decision makers at Atlético.

Digne has just over a year left on his contract at Villa Park. Last month, the defender said he’s unsure about his future at Aston Villa. The fullback suggested he could sign a new contract, stay at Villa Park without an extension or leave them this summer.

Diego Simeone’s side have explored potential moves for AC Milan’s Theo Hernández and Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson.

Picó states the Aston Villa player’s contractual situation could ‘facilitate a more affordable deal’.

“He is a player who has performed at a very high level and can come at a good price,” he said.

Radio Marca haven’t taken into account that both Hernández and Robertson have contracts expiring in 2026.

Tuesday’s edition of Marca reports both Digne and Robertson would be keen on joining Los Rojiblancos.

In Madrid, Robertson can reunite with his former Liverpool teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Digne knows La Liga first hand from his time at Barcelona. The report states he would return to Spain with more experience, which could suit Atlético.
