Tottenham Hotspur invested €20m excluding bonuses in completing a deal for Destiny Udogie from Udinese in the summer window.
Spurs immediately allowed the left-back to return to the Serie A side on a season-long loan deal after he signed a five-year contract. This has paid off for all three parties as he’s scored two goals from five league matches this term.
Apart from Tottenham, Inter Milan and Juventus showed interest in securing the 19-year-old’s services. The Nerazzurri sporting director, Piero Ausilio, even came up with a plan to bring the player to the San Siro.
This has now been revealed by the Italy U21 international’s agent, Stefano Antonelli, to TuttoMercatoWeb.
“That Inter were on the player is true. But it was an operation with economic connotations Inter could not support. It was not a viable trail. Although Ausilio created the conditions for the possibility to occur, as did Juventus. Tottenham have paid €20m plus another €6m in bonuses,” the agent said.
After scoring against AS Roma earlier this month, the Tottenham owned player admitted it is an unusual season for him, and stressed that he needs to further improve his game as he looks to arrive at Spurs next summer.
Udogie’s representative is also of the belief it is an important campaign for his client.
“He has to keep doing what he knows how to do. On November 28th, he will turn 20, he must continue his growth path as he is doing. The aim of staying another year in Italy weighed more than Tottenham,” Antonelli explained.
