Brighton & Hove Albion star Moisés Caicedo was subjected to a firm interest from Arsenal towards the end of the winter market.
Last month, the midfielder changed agents and is now represented by Fútbol División. He had hoped this would help him get a move away from the Seagulls.
Arsenal tabled multiple bids for the 21-year-old late in the January window, but Brighton kept rejecting them as they had no intention to selling him.
In the end, the Gunners ended their pursuit of the Ecuador international and signed Jorginho from Chelsea.
Caicedo’s agent, Manuel Sierra, has now opened up on his client’s failed move to Arsenal.
“The offers were received, you see what is on the table and Moisés says that he wants to go forward, that it is the dream of his whole life. That it is an opportunity that may not be repeated in life,” Sierra told Marca90Ec, relayed by Olé.
Brighton’s refusal to let Caicedo leave saw him release a statement on Twitter and Sierra gave his take on the player going public on wanting to leave.
“And we helped draft the statement. In that statement he expresses his wish and his gratitude to the club because they gave him the chance to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League,” the agent explained.
“We don’t know what can happen tomorrow, maybe he trains and gets injured. We can’t know what’s going to happen.”
Roberto De Zerbi’s side defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup tie last weekend and the South American was left out of the squad.
On Wednesday, Tera Deportes stated Brighton did not suspend for his public statement and instead he was granted leave.
This has now been confirmed by the player’s agent.
“Moisés asked the club for permission to publish the statement, he is the one who does not train and he does not go to the game because they decide to give him the weekend off. Brighton did not shun him… They understand the situation and they love him very much. It was a consensual agreement,” Sierra explained.
