Dinamo Zagreb youngster Joško Gvardiol has been wanted by several clubs across, with Leeds United very much in the picture for some weeks.
Multiple reports in Croatia explained the Whites tabled an offer in excess of €20m to acquire the centre-back’s services, an amount which would have pleased Dinamo.
Last week, we carried a report from Kicker, who stated there was confidence at the Bundesliga club of completing the 18-year-old’s signing. That confidence was justified, with Germany’s SportBuzzer reporting he’s now arrived for a medical.
Leipzig beating Marcelo Bielsa’s side for the Croatia U21 international has been explained by agent Andy Bara.
Calciomercato interviewed Bara and asked if the teenager received an offer from Leeds United, who were described as an ‘ambitious’ club in the current window.
Responding to that, the agent said: “True, he had an offer from Leeds but he chose Leipzig for the sporting project. At an economic level the offers were practically the same.”
When it became clear Gvardiol was slipping away, the Premier League club quickly moved on and signed Diego Llorente from Real Sociedad.
