Tottenham Hotspur have struggled in the absence of Guglielmo Vicario this season.
The Italian picked up a long-term ankle injury back in November and since then, Spurs have had instability in goal. New signing Antonin Kinsky and Brandon Austin have played this season but they still feel the absence of Vicario.
The 28-year-old played every Premier League for Tottenham before his injury but his time in England has been filled with some difficult moments as well
In an interview with Messaggero Veneto, the goalkeeper spoke about how he took time in adapting to life in the Premier League.
He said: “Certainly the goalkeeper is not well protected here. Especially on corner kicks it’s hard for a goalkeeper to make his way, adapting was complicated.”
He also spoke about the fans’ culture in the Premier League and how different it is from that in Italy.
“The approach of the people. Entire families with children go to cheer for their team.”
“I cheer for and not against, in Italy instead there is a more maniacal approach, the football match is too often a way to vent one’s frustrations. Not here.”
Vicario was also asked about how he has become a fans’ favourite at Tottenham in a short amount of time.
He said: “I think it depends on the objective with which one wants to immerse oneself in the new reality.”
“I did it immediately at 360° by bonding with the people of Tottenham also because I speak English well. People are also happy to see people who sacrifice themselves for the colors of their shirts.”
Vicario has become a leader at Tottenham and under Ange Postecoglou, he has also improved on the ball.
The London giants would be hoping that he returns to action as soon as possible, considering how important he’s been.
His recovery could play a key role in making sure Spurs win silverware and finish higher up in the table.
