Last summer, Leeds United were credited with a firm interest in Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Ao Tanaka, but they weren’t able to get a deal over the line.
Rheinische Post reported last September that Fortuna Düsseldorf were keen on selling him to the Whites.
Back in March, Bild suggested Leeds would be regretting not signing the midfielder, who has delivered ‘top performances’ for the second division German club.
The Japan international has a year left on his deal and Saturday’s edition of Rheinische Post talks about his future.
Fortuna Düsseldorf haven’t set a price tag and Transfermarkt value him at €3.5m. If there’s a sale in the summer window, the report says the fee is unlikely to be less than €3.5m.
There isn’t anything clear on his next club yet and a development is expected to take place in the next few weeks. Recent claims in England had stated that Leeds have agreed a deal with Tanaka.
Rheinische Post relay that and then state ‘there is absolutely no truth to this claim’. They add that Daniel Farke’s side haven’t even made contact to sign Tanaka.
As of now, the 25-year-old is unlikely to sign a new deal. Therefore, Fortuna Düsseldorf ‘can well very well imagine an exit, and their sporting director, Klaus Allofs, has to find a solution in the next window.
