Destiny Udogie was one of the players signed by Tottenham Hotspur in the last window.
Spurs agreed a deal with Udinese for the left-back’s transfer in August and then let him return to the Serie A side on loan for this season.
On Thursday, the 19-year-old’s agent, Ferdinando Guarino, admitted it was not difficult for his client to ‘seize’ the chance to join Tottenham despite interest shown from AS Roma and Juventus.
The Italy U21 international is managed by Football Service, who have Guarino as one of their agents.
Stefano Antonelli is the owner of the agency, and he has revealed an interesting detail about how his client could have ended up at Napoli instead of the north London club.
“This summer, I went to the Napoli camp in Dimaro. On that occasion, [Napoli director Cristiano] Giuntoli had asked me for Udogie, but that was a difficult moment,” Antonelli told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as relayed by Spazio Napoli.
“There was a bit of sadness in the environment, we sailed on sight, we did not know the real intentions of president De Laurentiis and there were a series of situations. That was not the right moment to close that negotiation, which in another moment could absolutely have been concluded positively.”
Along with José Mourinho’s side and Juve, Napoli looked at the possibility of signing Udogie before Tottenham secured his services and tied him to a five-year deal in August.
