While we might not always be the first on a story coming from abroad (although we do try our very best to be), we do pride ourselves in giving you the most accurate relay of what is being said.
One of the stories that emerged over the weekend was that of Tottenham being interested in Napoli’s Amadou Diawara, which, understandably, has caused quite a lot of excitement.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the more promising defensive midfielders around Europe, and while Napoli aren’t exactly in the business of actively trying to sell him, should a good offer land on their table, they’d consider it.
This is what Corriere dello Sport were reporting on Sunday, as the Serie A side are already looking at a replacement, and their target, Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, would cost far less than what they could get for Diawara.
At €25m, the Uruguayan midfielder is seen as an ideal fit, and if Napoli can get clubs to pay the Guinea international’s release clause, they’ll be laughing their way to the bank.
This is where Tottenham come in, as Diawara’s clause is only valid for foreign teams, and while its value has not officially leaked, Corriere reckon it stands at around €60m.
In today’s market, that’s relatively cheap for a talented midfielder, but the interest is currently just that: interest.
Nowhere does it say Daniel Levy would be prepared to meet the clause, as has been reported elsewhere, and there’s no mention of Mousa Dembélé having to leave in order for Diawara to come in.
Sorry for ruining the #narrative.
This just sounds like Tottenham doing what they do best, which is finding young talent abroad and preparing for more years under Mauricio Pochettino, much like they did with Davinson Sanchez last summer.
