Thibaut Courtois wants to, one day, return to Spain. It isn’t a secret, and he’s never wanted it to be one.
The Belgian goalkeeper had a great time at Atlético Madrid during his three years there, and with two children still living in the Spain capital with their mother, he has an extra incentive to want a move back to the city.
That will most likely come via a transfer to Real Madrid, but, as things stand, he’s still a Chelsea player, and all he can do is stop the ball from going into the back of the net at Stamford Bridge for the time being.
However, unlike a lot of goalkeepers, clean sheets aren’t really what get him out of bed in the morning, as he revealed in an interview with Sport/Foot.
He said: “I won the league’s clean sheet award last year. I’d like to keep my title, but I don’t get fixated on that. I’ll give you two examples. We drew 0-0 against Leicester and Everton, but I wasn’t happy.
“I’d rather concede three goals and win 4-3. I’m not addicted to clean sheets. Winning the Champions League, that’s what interests me more”.
Having won the Belgian league, La Liga and the Premier League twice, the Chelsea goalkeeper admitted that all he has left to win in his club career, or, at least, what he’d like to win, is the FA Cup and the aforementioned European competition.
Still in both with the Blues this season, this could be the year he finally lifts one of them, or both, or he could also lift neither of them.
