“I’ll never forget Elland Road’s atmosphere” – Leeds United overriding Championship memory

Jorge Teixeira has never played for Leeds United. He played a season and a half for Charlton Athletic, and left in the summer transfer window for Sint-Truiden in Belgium.

The 31 year old has played around the world and still has a chunk of his career left. It’s been an interesting journey and prompted Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg to speak to the Portuguese footballer about his travels.

Taking it country by country, when England came along, Teixeira picked out a stadium and crowd which has clearly left a mark on him as being typical of a great English atmosphere, even in the second division.

Well travelled players often compliment the Championship on having a great atmosphere, like first divisions elsewhere, and Leeds United sticks out for Teixeira: “I ended up with Charlton almost two years ago through Standard. Playing football in the Championship is fantastic. You play there almost weekly for 25,000 spectators or more, I will never forget the atmosphere at Elland Road in Leeds, for example.”

Teixeira won’t be enjoying the same kind of atmosphere at his Belgium club, where crowds down get anything like what Leeds United manage at Elland Road.
