Over the weekend, The Scottish Sun reported that Glasgow, and Celtic, could be set for some problems with travelling German fans at the end of the month.

The Sun claimed, as an exclusive: ‘BAYERN CLASH FEAR Cops on alert after 34,000 Bayern Munich fans try to snap up tickets to Champions League showdown with Celtic at Parkhead’

‘Top brass fear hordes of German supporters will descend on Glasgow and invade the Celtic end as Hoops diehards flog their briefs online for the Halloween clash’

This has all come as something of a surprise in Germany, where nothing of the sort is expected. Yes, Celtic Park is considered a good away ground to visit, but there’s simply no more worry over this match, or even interest, than Bayern Munich receive on a regular basis.

The Sun report: ‘Five-time European champs Bayern said the unprecedented demand was due to Parkhead’s famous atmosphere. A club spokesman said: “Everyone wants to see this game in this stadium.”’

The German reaction is pretty much one of bemusement at The Sun’s claims, and they spoke directly to Bayern Munich.

Rather than quoting an unnamed source, the German arm of Eurosport say they spoke to Dieter Nickles, Bayern spokesman, who told them it’s true applications have been tenfold the number of tickets allocated, but that’s the case for ‘almost every away game of Bayern in the Champions League’.

Bayern Munich simply don’t believe in the claims an ‘invasion’ of Celtic is set to take place for the October 31st match.
