Inter Milan signed Curtis Jones from Liverpool late in the summer. While the player is yet to impress on the pitch, he is becoming a rather popular character off it.

Sport Witness had closely tracked all the developments around the midfielder, who was a target for the Nerazzurri in January. Inter didn’t give up then and managed to seal the permanent deal in the summer, as Jones’ Reds contract ran out in 2027.

This gave them the perfect chance to sign him, with the player having replaced Davide Frattesi. Buzz around Jones is growing, with the midfielder earning many admirers.

Superstar reputation

FCInterNews explain Curtis Jones was the ‘star’ of a special meet and greet event in Milan this week. Hundreds of fans flocked to the venue, as they got to meet Jones and had pictures clicked with the England international.

This is seen as a sign that the ex-Liverpool man is turning into a superstar, with Inter also having released a video of him explaining the Scouse accent to the Italian audience.

It is an indication that he is settling in quite well, with the club playing a big role in that. They’re also tapping well into his identity, handing him a pedestal of sorts. This has helped in Inter fans being more intrigued about the man from Merseyside.

A lot is expected of Curtis Jones

Friday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport states Jones really likes Milan as a city. He had waited to join Inter for many months and has been quick to move on from Liverpool. His partner – Saffron Khan, has also settled into the city well.

The newspaper do point out that Jones is yet to make a big impact on the pitch. He has shown glimpses of his quality in Serie A. He did well against Real Madrid despite an error that led to a goal.

But despite things not being perfect on the pitch just yet, the club have a plan for him. Cristian Chivu was big on signing him and will soon make him a central part of the project.

Meanwhile, former Real Madrid player and Italy international, and now something of a gob on a stick, Antonio Cassano has this week declared Jones to be better than Scott McTominay. That adds more pressure, considering what the Scotland international has done at Napoli.

Teaching Scouse to an Italian audience

The excitement around Curtis Jones is partly because he’s a Liverpool lad and came through with the Reds. The Premier League club’s success in recent years is respected around Europe, so that’s added to theJones mystique.

There’s also his Scouse accent, with Inter Milan getting to the player to do a video explaining various phrases.

Player being eased in

Tactically, the 25-year-old’s strengths on the ball have been seen. He has done well with his ability to carry the ball forward, even if releasing it at the right time has been a problem.

But that is a solid foundation to start things with. He offers more ability on the ball that Frattesi, who is more of a box-crasher.

Besides, Inter could soon lose Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. A player of Jones’ quality and leadership will be key then and it is clear he isn’t being rushed in. The Nerazzurri are being patient and are sure the arrival from Liverpool will come good.
