Juventus manager Thiago Motta is the one pushing for the club to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Sportmediaset, relayed by Tutto Juve, who say Motta is convinced that his former striker can improve his side in the second half of the season.

The newspaper reports that Zirkzee ‘continues to be among Juventus’ favourites’ to strengthen their attack in January and add competition for Dusan Vlahovic.

Any operation for him has been ‘sponsored’ by Motta, who worked with the striker at Bologna. The pair enjoyed a good relationship, with Zirkzee shining under his tutelage and eventually moving to Manchester United thanks to those performances.

Sportmediaset report that Motta would like to have Zirkzee in his squad once again and is ‘convinced’ that he can help the team both technically and tactically.

Whether that leads to a concerted effort or Manchester United sanctioning a deal in January remains to be seen. Sportmediaset says that won’t happen until the market gets ‘into full swing’.

But with Motta’s approval and him seemingly encouraging the idea, we doubt we’ve heard the last of Zirkzee and Juventus.
