Club have decided to move on from Liverpool man – But it may be part of ‘The Game’

PSV Eindhoven have grown tired of waiting to do a deal for Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg, although that stance may be part of the game to get him.

That’s according to De Telegraaf and Voetbal International, who have different stances on the matter today.

Starting with the former, they report that PSV have been ‘fully committed’ to getting a deal done for the Liverpool defender this summer but are growing frustrated with a lack of movement.

The 22-year-old wants the move, but Liverpool are sticking to an asking price of €20m and that is more than PSV are willing or able to pay for him. The Reds are also yet to make a decision on the Dutchman and want more time to consider his future, further frustrating PSV.

The growing belief is that they are being held at arm’s length as there’s clubs in Germany who are keen and so they’ve now decided to move on to other targets.

Voetbal International dispute this, though, and report that PSV have not completely ruled out the Liverpool man as yet.

According to this information, the idea that they are moving on to other targets is actually part of ‘The Game’ to try and get the defender.

The belief is that they may be playing their cards and hoping to convince, or even perhaps scare Liverpool into making a decision and even dropping their asking price.

‘With at least two and a half weeks to go in this transfer window, that is getting off to a slow start, the above seems too premature at the moment. It is more likely that the message that PSV forwards is part of ‘The Game’,’ Marco Timmer writes.

‘The recent statements about Van den Berg’s transfer fee and the reaction from Eindhoven can perhaps mainly be described as a strategy in the final phase of The Game that is being played.

‘In the final phase of The Game it will become clear who ultimately has the longest breath. Don’t be surprised if Sepp van den Berg can soon be admired in the red and white of PSV in the Philips Stadium.’
