Uno Sante Fe reports Southampton have withdrawn from negotiations to sign Jerónimo Dómina.
The 18-year-old plays for Union de Sante Fe and has a contract lasting until December 2025. He made 35 appearances last season, rarely playing a full match, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
So far this season he’s been given around 250 minutes and has two goals from that. Jerónimo Dómina is also a youth international for Argentina.
Uno Sante Fe reports Southampton have been keen for over a month, and commenced negtioations to bring the youngster to England.
The Saints were working on a paid one year loan, which would have seen an obligation to buy if certain targets were reached.
However, they didn’t get a reply from the Argentine side and have now walked away.
It’s understandable if that wasn’t considered a good enough formula for Union. Had the attacker not hit whatever targets were in the contract, and Southampton back at the end of the coming season, then he’d have only had months left on his contract.
In South America, contracts usually end in December or January, whereas in Europe it’s the end of June.
