Roma’s fans have welcomed the announcement that the Friedkin group have pulled out of talks to buy Everton, now hoping they focus on their club and new signings.
That’s according to Corriere della Sera, who report on the ‘no to Everton’ which was announced yesterday.
Friedkin and his group had been in exclusivity talks with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri regarding a takeover at the club having already helped to pay off various debts ahead of the takeover.
That deal has now been halted, though, with Everton and Friedkin announcing yesterday that the American businessman had decided against going further.
They cite that Everton’s debt to 777 Partners was the crux of the issue, with either paying that or the fear of future FIFA and UEFA restrictions having scared Friedkin and his group off.
The newspaper also insists that rumours circulating that the Americans could be about to sell Roma to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund are being strongly denied by the group and they remain committed to Roma.
In the meantime, Roma fans are quite pleased by the Everton takeover falling through, welcoming the news. Indeed, according to the newspaper, the common response was “now the Friedkins should think about strengthening Roma”.
It seems they’re not particularly keen on the idea of a partnership and, now the idea has been ended, they might end up benefitting.
