Watford’s interest in Farense goalkeeper Ricardo Velho generated some noise in the Portuguese media, where they now sound excited about the possibility of his move to English football.
Earlier this week, newspaper Record revealed the Hornets’ chase for the player, with the outlet saying the Vicarage Road side are leading the way for the signing.
The very same Record now shares a new story, this time with some compliments towards the Watford target.
“He’s always been a dedicated player, a focussed player, who didn’t have as many opportunities to play as he’s getting now. I didn’t imagine it would be so soon, but I reckoned he’d make a big leap, like the one that’s about to happen,” Rafael Defendi told Record.
“His main quality is one-on-one, the way he shortens the space and how well he does what we call a ‘wall’ in football.”
As said in Record’s original report, Velho has a €10m release clause at Farense, and Watford may be able to get him for less.
It’s also worth pointing out that he’s represented by Jorge Mendes’ agency Gestifute, and we all know how they are able to pull a big move out of nothing, so the Hornets should be aware of that.
