Following Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup’s quarter-finals at the weekend, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was clearly not happy with the result.
While speaking to the foreign media, the manager abandoned an interview with Viaplay where he didn’t like the questions and stormed off midway through the chat with the journalist.
Niels Christian Frederiksen has now spoken to the Danish media about the episode, having a chat with Bold, where he also revealed that something else happened after the camera was turned off.
“I went after him, and then he punched the microphone away because he thinks it was annoying that I kept sticking it at him so I could get it all. Afterwards, he shouted and went down the hall, where there were many gathered in a small area.”
“No not at all. I perceive the session as an expression of Jürgen Klopp’s extreme winning mentality. You don’t become one of the world’s best coaches if you don’t hate losing, so I actually feel more that it was his frustrations with the defeat than frustration with my questions.”
“That’s what triggered it, so I don’t put anything into it. So no, I must have no excuse. It was just a small thing, I think.”
Liverpool, who won the League Cup, now remain in the fight for the Premier League and the Europa League titles. Following the international break, they’ll be facing Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on March 31.
In the Europa League, they’ve qualified to the quarter-finals to face Atalanta, with the first leg taking place at Anfield on April 11.
