Aston Villa forward Moussa Diaby is finally back in the French national team.
Despite staying out of the squad for nearly a year, the 24-year-old was today named in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the upcoming friendlies.
French outlet RMC Sport now features some quotes from the coach, and with the Aston Villa player making a long-awaited comeback, there were some special comments about him.
“It can give him a lot of hope and expectation to do everything he can to make the list in May. Some players come in regularly, others depending on the circumstances. He hasn’t lost his qualities, he’s capable of being decisive. This is his chance to make the most of this gathering,” said Deschamps.
Diaby has been having a tough time with the national team for a while now, as he had already missed the World Cup in 2022.
During the Euro Qualifiers, he was called up for a couple of matches in March last year, and that’s when he had his last appearances for his country, in the wins against the Netherlands and Ireland.
Diaby then missed eight games and now has the chance to prove himself in the friendlies against Germany and Chile, which are taking place in the next couple of weeks.
Playing for Aston Villa this season, he has six goals and seven assists in 39 appearances so far, which is why Deschamps felt the need to give him a bit of a boost and a reward this time around.
