On Monday, BK Häcken youngster Momodou Sonko revealed that his friends want him to join Liverpool or Barcelona.
The winger has managed 14 goals and eight assists from 44 games since he made his first team debt for the Swedish club’s first team in 2022. His displays and potential have caught the attention of other clubs.
Fotboll Direkt journalist Ola Gustavsson states Liverpool are included in the list, along with RB Leipzig and Bologna, and all three clubs are making ‘strong moves’ to acquire the 18-year-old’s signature.
Gustavsson adds officials from the Premier League side and the other two teams have made trips to Gothenburg, to hold talks with Häcken for Sonko. These ‘secret meetings’ have been fruitful but there’s still no concrete proposal yet.
Sonko’s contract lasts until 2025 and the journalist claims his club value him at SEK 80m, which is around €7m.
Fotbollskanalen spoke to Häcken sporting director Martin Ericsson and asked his views about the interest Sonko has received so far.
He said: “The interest is huge. Then it must be said that there have been some other young players who end up in the spotlight in Sweden. But the interest is great, especially considering the size of clubs.
“Then I think everyone understands that this is no cheap player. I think that pretty much all the big clubs in Europe know who ‘Mommo’ is and have followed him. But there are a lot of things that have to fall into place for it to become a deal.”
